Temperatures to Plummet Over Weekend as Storm Arrives in Northwest Montana

first_imgThe National Weather Service issued a winter weather advisory for the Flathead and Mission valleys and West Glacier region on Friday morning, after accumulating snow in valleys and mountains caused slick road conditions and car accidents as skiers and snowboarders rushed up to Whitefish Mountain Resort (WMR) for a 5-inch powder day.A multi-vehicle accident occurred at 7 a.m. on Big Mountain Road, Flathead County Sheriff Brian Heino said, causing backed-up traffic, which delayed the mountain’s opening.“It sounds like traffic was backed up to Highway 40 at one point,” Heino said.“That was a pretty unique case for us with the crashes on the mountain early this morning,” WMR Public Relations Manager Maren McKay said. “We typically don’t see that level of traffic.”A winter storm watch remains in effect from Saturday afternoon until Sunday morning, and the National Weather Service reported one to three inches of new snow in the Flathead Valley and three to 10 inches elsewhere. Forecasters expect a total of six to eight inches in the valley and six to 12 inches elsewhere, with up to 16 inches in the high country. Areas to watch include Bad Rock Canyon, Essex, U.S. Highway 83 to Bigfork to Swan Lake, Marias Pass, Polebridge, Flathead Lake, Polson and the Flathead and Mission valleys. An arctic airmass is expected to “slide over” central Montana with arctic air expected around Glacier National Park and as far west as Kalispell by Saturday morning. Temperatures are expected to drop 30 degrees below zero in some areas of Northwest Montana, with temperatures in Kalispell dropping to negative 8 on Monday night.Additionally, the Flathead Avalanche Center issued a backcountry avalanche warning in the Swan and Flathead mountain ranges and Lake McDonald and Marias Pass areas of Glacier National Park on Friday morning.Avalanche forecasters rated the Whitefish Range as “considerable” on the avalanche danger scale on Friday with six to eight inches of snow expected through Saturday. The Flathead and Swan ranges were rated as “high” on Friday morning. The Flathead Range and Glacier Park are expected to see 13 to 18 inches through Saturday while the Swan Range is expected to see 20 to 23 inches.“The forecast region has seen a spate of large and very large natural, human and remotely triggered avalanches in the past week,” Forecaster Clancy Nelson wrote in the Feb. 5 forecast discussion. “People have reported near misses and at least one person was caught, carried and slightly injured. These slides have occurred nearly every day, not just during storms … This hazard is growing even more serious as a potent storm lashes our area.”For more weather information, visit www.weather.gov/mso/. Mobile camera placement for effective virtual communication

first_imgThe virtual communication through the webcam on laptop or mobile device Camera is already used by people for the past few years and advanced technological development with enhanced pixel Camera contributing a lot in this regard. But an urgent need for the same is being felt since the past few months because of lockdown as a result of COVID-19 Pandemic. While many of the users successfully using virtual communication at the same time some others desperately think that they are not getting a satisfactory result for not having an expensive device on their hand. This may be true to some extent while talking about a number of pixels produced by Camera which contribute a lot to the picture quality. But it is also true that people can easily establish a successful virtual communication using the available resources whatever on their hand. It is observed that students, especially the children, are more efficient in using the Camera for their exploring nature. One who is familiar with his own device must know the best use of it. For establishing a successful virtual communication one must keep in mind few things essential for the purpose.1) The first thing one should keep in mind is to use the horizontal format instead of keeping the device vertical. While the vertical format doesn’t provide much space at the same time it also mismatches to the aspect ratio of a laptop or television screen. One must have noticed the empty space on both sides of the actual picture on the screen of any TV Channels while connecting to a mobile user who is holding the device vertically. Most of the TV Channels try to modify the screen by using a wipe and creating a border around the actual picture.2) The second thing we should remember is to place the device on eye level. The vertical axis of the device should be perpendicular to the axis between the device Camera and eyes of the person who is being photographed. This will reduce the extra space towards the ceiling that always badly visible in case of most of the users. It may not be possible for holding the device on hand and maintain the same throughout the communication. So it advisable to keep it on a stand by fixing the frame with an activity area at a distance.3) One most important thing we should remember is about the selection of background. The background behind the person must not have any artificial light source or windows and ventilation through which light passes from outside. Any Device Camera with auto mode will capture such unnecessary light and the picture will either appear black or blurred.4) The next important factor is the use of a light source. While people are communicating from their home it is assumed to have used available light source inside their home or in exterior daylight. All the webcam and mobile cameras are being designed to shoot on the available light source and we only need to keep the exposure on auto mode.An artificial light source if used indoor must be at the front of the person being photographed and atop the device.5) By keeping all those steps as mentioned above we can easily frame an activity area at a distance for our use. One need not go closer to the device which may result in a distorted image. We must remember the limitation of technology which is still on a developing stage. Most people still feel the tendency to either going closer towards the device or bringing the device closer to them to see the picture from the other end. By doing this they often forget to balance their own picture. For better use of virtual communication, one can easily connect the mobile device to a laptop or Television set by using smart view app. By using both the system one can avoid most of the distortion and establish better communication.last_img read more
