Police arrest woman after drive by shooting on 61st St. in Mission Thursday

first_imgThe shooting took place three blocks west of the Mission Police Station.Mission police say a woman is in custody on suspicion of connection with a drive by shooting that took place in the 6400 block of W. 61st Street Thursday evening.Mission officials say police arrives on the scene just before 7 p.m. after getting reports of shots fired. Interviews with witnesses revealed that people in two cars driving through the area had a verbal exchange with two pedestrians.“After the verbal altercation, the two vehicles began to leave the area. One of the vehicles turned south on Walmer Street,” said Mission Police Capt. Dan Madden in a release. “While speeding away, a passenger in the vehicle shot four times in the direction of a residence.”Police say there were several people outside in the vicinity of the residence, including children, when the shots were fired. No one was injured in the shooting, however.Law enforcement put out a “be on the lookout” bulletin for the suspect vehicle, and Kansas City, Kan., police later located it in the 200 bock of S. 12th Street. They detained a female suspect in connect to the shooting, and she was transported to Johnson County jail pending charges.last_img read more

150 Young “First Time Home Builders” to Benefit From A $1.5M Grant by Government

first_img Share Tweet One hundred and fifty (150) young persons are expected to benefit from “grants to first time home builders” which is being provided by the Government of Dominica.That announcement was made by Prime Minister Roosevelt Skerrit during his budget presentation for the fiscal year 2020/2021.He said Government will make possible an amount of $1.5 million in a bid to support persons under the age of 40 years, whose annual income is less than $100,000, and are interested in acquiring a home of their own.The Prime Minister said this support will be provided in the form of grant vouchers to a maximum of $10,000 per home for the purchase of building materials or to be put towards the transfer fees for the purchase of a new home.“To qualify, first time home builders, must present copies of building plans approved by the Physical Planning Division and must have commenced construction with the secured financing required to complete construction of the building where they intend to reside,” Skerrit said.He said, “In the case of first-time buyers of a home, notice of intention to sell must be presented along with evidence that financing has been secured. These grants will be available from October 1, 2020 and be administered by the Ministry of Youth Development and Empowerment, and is expected to benefit 150 of our young people.”The Prime Minister also says the Dominica Government is cognizant of the fact that it must create an environment to encourage people to build their own homes despite its expansive housing programme.“We have more than doubled the mortgage interest deductions allowable for income tax, have made funds available at the Government Housing Loans Board and at the AID Bank, for access by public officers and citizens in general.”Skerrit added, “Government is going further this year, and is providing for a temporary reduction in the fees related to the transfer of land. Parkway rolls past Shreve for fifth straight win

first_imgThe Parkway Panthers have been on a roll since losing their season opener to Calvary Baptist.Parkway won its fifth straight game Thursday night, routing Captain Shreve 49-14 at Preston Crownover Stadium in a District 1-5A opener.The Panthers improved to 5-1 overall. They’ve won every game by at least 24 points during their winning streak. Captain Shreve dropped to 3-3 with its third straight loss.Parkway junior quarterback Keondre Wudtee completed eight of 14 passes for 266 yards and four touchdowns to four different receivers.Wudtee’s first TD pass went for 93 yards to Jared Lancaster. Stacy McCray (34 yards), Artavious Lynn (24 yards) and Demetrius McAtee (23 yards) also had TD catches.William McKnight (20 yards), Maleck Zeidan (19 yards) and Juwon Johnson (64yards) had rushing touchdowns, Johnson’s came after he bobbled the snap while back to punt.The Panthers piled up 447 yards total offense, 175 on the ground and 272 through the air.The defense limited the a Gators to 223 total yards.Dante Williams, Kaleb Monroe and Henry Sandifer led the defense with 10 tackles apiece. Kyle Still had eight. Juwon Johnson, Semaj Tarver and Willie Johnson had seven apiece.Monroe intercepted a pass and returned it 72 yards.
